Reiki (pronounced ray key) is universal life energy, divine energy.  It is the feeling of being loved and at peace with oneself.  Reiki is not intellectual, it is  experiential.  How does one explain the feelings evoked by a smile, a hug, the song of a bird, the warmth of the sun?  Only when one has felt the warm soothing hands of a Reiki practitioner does one comprehend Reiki's ability to calm, comfort, revitalize and heal.
                                         
The most dramatic Reiki experience I have encountered to date occurred after "Hurricane Iniki" ravaged the Island of Kauai on September 11,1992. I joined a Reiki team who volunteered to give Reiki treatments to anyone who  was interested at an armory where people came by the hundreds , standing in lines to obtain goods, services, meals and government assistance.

People came to our makeshift clinic after having had portions of their homes blown away, having lost their jobs, living without running water and electricity in extreme heat, not knowing how they were going to recreate their lives.  These people came to the clinic bent over with aches and  pains, sadness in their eyes that had been crying, maximum stress

After an hour long Reiki treatment these people walked out more calm, with a lighter step, a walk more straight, brighter eyes smiling faces.  I felt blessed to have Reiki flowing through my hands so that I could share its energy with my neighbors.

A  Reiki  practitioner is a conduit.  Reiki is a radiating  energy  which moves  through  the practitioner's hands and easily passes through clothing, blankets, dressings, even casts.  The energy is directed by the Divine, by God.  The energy is the energy of God directed by God.

During  my years as a Reiki Master, teacher the energy of Reiki has taught me a great deal about the healing process.   I have come to realize that illness even though it feels physical also has mental, emotional and spiritual components to it.  Physical illness is often a teacher which occurs to draw attention to an emotional problem, a mental issue or a spiritual lesson.  It is the physical illness that helps people to learn something that they had been been avoiding in every possible way...stuffing the issue inside, running away, refusing to see, unwilling to hear.   Physical illness quite often comes as a teacher.

Reiki has the power to increase intuition.  When a people's intuitive channels open, they have a greater capacity to understand the the lesson they are meant to learn.  Once the lesson is learned, the physical healing follows.  Reiki helps us become aware of how we need to change in order to heal completely.

I have also observed that after a Reiki session a people come to the realization of what they need to do in addition to receiving the Reiki. 

              Reiki increases intuition. 
                       Reiki promotes clarity.
